Itinerary

8:00 a.m.: Arrival at Port Off Ile Royale
Disembark and be towed by small boat to the pier.

8:05 a.m.: Welcome by English Speaking Guide
Spot presentation about the history of French Guiana and its cruel past.

8:50-10:45 a.m.: Penal Settlement
An introduction to the prison community and to the ruins of the penal settlement. Some buildings have been preserved to this day. Visit the cells which housed the prisoners, the penal headquarters, the residence for the insane, the chapel, island water storage, tower for cable car to Devil's Island, the graveyard of the security children and the other houses located on the island. Go back down the stairs along the winding path to discover the prisoners' swimming pool located near the edge of the island.

Option 1: 11:45 a.m. Rest at the Auberge
Take a few minutes rest and go onto St. Joseph Island or have lunch on the island. (Cost is 22 Euros for a 3 course meal).

Option 2: 11:45-12:15 p.m.: St. Joseph Island
Go on to St. Joseph Island and discover yet another settlement for the French Legion. You may take a swim on the island.

1:10 p.m.: Departure
Take a small boat back to your waiting cruise ship.
