Culture and Religion
The Saramakan people believe in a wide range of supernatural beings. These beings include localized forest spirits and gods that reside in the bodies of snakes, vultures, jaguars, and other animals. In addition to this category of spiritual entities, there are ancestors, river gods, and warrior spirits. Each supernatural being is named, individualized, and given specific relationships to living people.
