
St. Lucia & 3 Guianas
This 14 day natural history and culural expedition focuses on St. Lucia, Martinique Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. In St Lucia, you will visit Pigeon island, Rodney Bay, the Soufriere Volcano, Sulphur springs, Diamond Waterfalls, the magnificent Pitons and Castries. You will also discover the beautiful island of Martinique and immerse yourself in the French way of life. Then, you will explore the vast rainforests in Guyana, including the mighty Kaieteur Falls, the oldest rock formation on the Guiana shield, and the incredibly beautiful Garden City which have many old colonial buildings dating back to the 18th and 19th century. You will then visit the culturally rich country of Paramaribo with its European influences and Dutch speaking people before heading to French Guiana, a department of France. Hear stories of the penal system and relive Henri Charie's novel Papillion on this visit of French Guiana. Not to be forgotten is the famous Dreyfus Affair.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
Arrive in St. Lucia. Pick up and transfer to your hotel for overnight.
Day 2: St Lucia
Depart early for your tour, which includes, Soufriere, Sulphur Springs, Botanical Gardens and Diamond Springs, the Pitons, Morne Fortune, colourful waterfalls, Castries and the village of Choiseul. Late return to hotel. (Meals: breakfast)
Day 3: Pigeon Island and Rodney Bay
Morning tour of Pigeon Island and afternoon visit of Rodney bay.
Day 4: Martinique
Early departure first by bus to the pier and then continue on to Martinique. All day in Martinique. Afternoon return to hotel. (Meals: breakfast)
Day 5: Guyana
Arrive in Guyana and be met by our representative for a transfer to your hotel for 3 nights.
Day 6: Georgetown
Morning city tour of Georgetown, including St. George's Cathedral — the tallest free standing wooden building in the world — picturesque city hall, the Victorian law courts, the national museum, botanical gardens and zoo and many heritage sites. Return to hotel. Rest of day free to relax. (Meals: breakfast)
Day 7: Kaieteur Falls/Sloth Island
Morning flight to Kaieteur Falls. See the majestic 740 foot (225 meter) natural wonder from different vantage points. Spend 2 hours at the falls. Picnic lunch and afternoon flight to Sloth Island, an incredible nature reserve which has more than 120 species of birds. You may also encounter monkeys and sloth along the nature trail. (Meals: breakfast, lunch)
Day 8: Mazaruni River Tour
Today you will be transferred to the Marshall rapids with stops at the oldest dutch fort — kykoveral. Along the way see the Mazaruni prison, Bartica and the Amerindian Village of Agatash.
Day 9: Return to Georgetown
After lunch, you will be transferred to Georgetown by boat and bus. On the way, we will stop at the Heritage Meuseum for an interesting view of Gary's artefacts. Transfer to the hotel in Georgetown for overnight.
Day 10: Suriname
Transfer to airport for flight to Paramaribo Suriname. Depart at 7:00 a.m. and arrive at 9:30 a.m. in Paramaribo. Meet our representative and transfer to your hotel for check in. Afternoon city tour of Paramaribo, including guided tour by bus along the most prominent historic locations in the city center where you will be impressed by the outstanding architecture. You will also visit Fort Zeelandia, Palmentuin (Palm Garden), the Waterkant and the central market. Return to your hotel. Rest of afternoon you are free to visit the casino or shop for souvenirs. (Meals: breakfast)
Day 11: French Guiana
Morning transfer to Albina by air conditioned car. This is a 1 1/2 hour drive and then transfer to Kourou. (Meals: breakfast)
Day 12: Devil's Island
Transfer to Ile Royale for your Devil's Island tour. Spot presentation by English Guide. See Devil's Island from the Auberage and learn about the legend behind Papillon. Learn about Dreyfus and the French Guiana colonial era. Visit the ruins of the penal settlement. Then visit Joseph Island. Late afternoon return to hotel.
Day 13: Ariannespace Centre
Transfer to Arianespace Centre. Bus shuttle to the main installations and get to know more about the space program. Afterwards, you will be transferred to Cayenne for city tour including the most prominient historical sites.
Day 14: Paramaribo
After breakfast depart French Guiana and transfer to Paramaribo. Transfer to hotel.
Day 15: Departure
Transfer to airport for your flight.
