Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
Arrive in Guyana, South America's only English speaking country. Guyana is a nature lover's gem, waiting to be discovered. It is known as the land of many waters and the giants of the world; among them, the mighty Essequibo River, giant arapaima fish, Harpy Eagle, the anaconda, giant otters, black caiman, jaguars and more.
Day 2: Georgetown City Tour
Georgetown was called Longchamps by the French and Stabroek by the Dutch. It is a city full of historical monuments, and gracious colonial buildings which are still used today. It is known as the "Garden City of the Caribbean". Wide tree-lined avenues and beautiful architecture, ranging from Gothic to Elizabethan, are evident as you drive along Main Street, High Street and Brickdam. St. George's Cathedral is the tallest freestanding wooden building in the world and was consecrated in 1892. Picturesque City hall was completed in 1889. St. Andrew's Kirk was the first church built in Guyana over 139 years ago. The Victorian Law Courts built in 1887, Stabroek Market, the Parliament Building, built in 1834, are also many of the fine examples of colonial architecture. Our visit also includes the Umana Yana, Prime Minister's Residence and State House built in 1845 as the governor's residence, the Walter Roth Museum with its display of Amerindian artifacts, the national museum and the botanical and zoological gardens. The bustling and colourful markets of Bourda, Stabroek and Kitty are some of the city's prized landmarks.(Meals: breakfast, lunch)
Day 3: Kaieteur Falls Tour
Morning flight to Kaieteur Falls. See the majestic 740 foot (225 meter) natural wonder from different vantage points. Spend 2 hours at the falls. Picnic lunch and afternoon return. Transfer to the hotel. (Meals: breakfast, lunch)

Day 4: Fly to Suriname/Paramaribo City Tour
Early departure at 6:00 a.m. to airport for 8:00 a.m. flight to Paramaribo Suriname. Arive in Paramaribo at 11:00 a.m. at which time you will be met by our representative and transferred to hotel for check in. Take an afternoon city tour of Paramaribo, including guided tour by bus along the most prominent historic locations in the city center where you will be impressed by the outstanding architecture. You will also visit Fort Zeelandia, Palmentuin (Palm Garden), the Waterkant and the Central Market. Return to hotel. Rest of afternoon free to visit the casino or shop for souvenirs. (Meals: breakfast)
Day 5: Drive to French Guiana
Morning transfer to Albina by air conditioned car. This is a one and a half hour drive to the crossing and then transfer to Kourou. (Meals: breakfast, lunch)
2 nights at Mercure Ariatel

Day 6: Devil's Island Tour
Transfer to Ile Royale for your Devil's island tour. Eight miles (14 kilometers) north of Kourou, Devils Islands (formerly known as the Triangle Isles) comprise three islands: Royale, Saint-Joseph and Devil's island. Your English guide will escort you to Ile Royale and you will be given a spot presentation detailing the history of the islands that make up the penal settlements. See Devil's Island from the Auberge and learn about the legend behind "Papillon". Learn about Dreyfus and the French Guiana colonial era. Visit the ruins of the penal settlement cells dating back to 1847. Visit Joseph Island. Late afternoon return to hotel. (Meals: breakfast, lunch)

Day 7: Arianne Space Centre
Transfer to Ariane Space Centre. Bus shuttle to the main installations and get to know more about the space program. Return to the hotel and depart by noon for Paramaribo. Packed lunch will be provided. Transfer to hotel.(Meals: breakfast, lunch)

Day 8: Joden Savanna and Cola Creek Tour
This morning we will travel approximately 43 miles (70 kilometers) south of Paramaribo, at the right bank of the Suriname River, where lies the former Jewish settlement, Jodensavanne. This historic place was named after the Jewish people who fled from the inquisition in Europe around 1650 and settled in this savannah area. This former Jewish village still shows the remnants of the oldest synagogue in the Americas as well as the ruins of a graveyard. Nowadays, these remnants have been cleaned and a simple cottage has been set up as a museum. Here, visitors find information about this unique, historic graveyard in the forest in Suriname. Your visit to Jodensavanne, the peacefulness of nature and the many springs will leave you with a lasting memory. After Jodensavanne, the tour will continue to Colakreek, a recreation park in the savannah area. Colakreek is ideal for swimming, relaxing and walks through the savannah. The leaves falling in the water gives the creek its dark color which looks like a Coca Cola drink, hence the name Colakreek. (Meals: breakfast, lunch)

Day 9: Commewijne River
Today you will enjoy a boat cruise on a comfortable tourboat to Commewijne with stops ar Nieuw Amsterdam, the historic government center and Fort Nieuw Amsterdam, an open air museum. We will take a boat to Frederiksdorp to admire the most beautifully restored plantation houses in Suriname. Lunch in colonial surroundings and take a stroll through the once flourishing coffee plantation. Dolphin spotting may also be included in the program. Return in the afternoon.
